Be Authentic: Tiny Steps

Be Authentic: Tiny Steps

3 Tiny steps to being more Authentic

Guillotine Life is based on three core principles: authenticity, Boldness, Relentlessness. Here we will expand on reaching authenticity and provide tiny suggestions, steps, and nudges on how to get there. We love tiny steps because they are manageable, so we hope you enjoy!

Self Discovery Routine:

1st tiny step: dedicate 5 minutes every day to reflect on who you are with different prompts.

The first step to authenticity is starting to discover and understand yourself. Self Discovery can help you get to know yourself inside and out, we should strive to achieve this so we can be authentically ourselves. Here are some sample prompts to get you started.

  • What are your unique quirks and pet peeves?
  • What are your hidden flaws?
  • What compliments do you receive the most?
  • What are things you’re so good at, you don’t even realize it?

Honesty

2nd tiny step: dedicate a week to improving your self honesty

The next step is to practice self honesty. Sometimes it can be difficult to be honest with ourselves about who we are. Reflect and make notes about a flaw, feature, or strength that you are having trouble coming to terms with. Dedicate some some time working on embracing self honesty with the prompts below. After a week, write your new thoughts about the same flaw, feature, or strength and compare with the original. You might notice some improvement in how you feel or you might just get clarity on your sentiments. You can repeat this as many times as you want! Below are some prompts we suggest for your self reflection. Pick something about yourself and ask the questions below.

  • What are your raw (maybe difficult to come to terms with) opinions about this?
  • What is the worst that could happen if you expressed it to the one you trust the most?
  • What is the worst that could happen if you expressed it to the world?
  • What about the best case scenario?
  • How nice would it be if the best case scenario actually happened?

Resourcefulness

3rd tiny step: Spend 10 minutes every day looking for, connecting with, or learning from the people listed below

The journey towards authenticity, although very personal, can be very disorientating when done in complete solitude. This is where the third steps come in. As you learn more about yourself, you might reach a point where you feel alone and lost. At this stage, it’s important to make connections and seek help from people you look up to.

  • People who share your struggle
  • People who have overcome similar struggles in the past
  • People who have helped others overcome similar struggles.

If this makes you cringe a little, remember that there are so many ways to connect with others.

  • In person ressources : meetup.com
  • Reading their books or listening to their audiobooks. Some people use Audible, Scribd is more affordable with a smaller selection.
  • Reading their blogs and posts.
  • Platforms like Reddit or more niche ones (depending on your preferences)
  • Watchin their videos on social media
  • Chatting anonymously. Try the app “Whisper”

The key is to be as resourceful as you can with a goal in mind: finding a solution that works for you.
